SEATTLE -- The Angels selected the contract of outfielder Shane Robinson from Triple-A Salt Lake, the club announced Friday.
Robinson is hitting .200 in 29 plate appearances with the Halos this season. He's a lifetime .227 hitter in eight MLB seasons, most of which were spent with the Cardinals (2009-2014).
Robinson adds depth to the Angels' outfield, especially with Ben Revere and Eric Young Jr. prime candidates for pinch-hitting or pinch-running situations.
"[It] helps us on the back end to have another guy that is definitely a plus-runner, and can pinch-run," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He'll help us with depth moving forward."
Right-handed pitcher Brooks Pounders was designated for assignment to clear space for Robinson on the 40-man roster. Los Angeles' active roster now is at 37 players.
