Astros return Rule 5 Draft pick Gose to Rangers

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Rangers are getting Rule 5 Draft pick pitcher/outfielder Anthony Gose back from the Astros. He has been outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock and will be in camp on Monday as a non-roster player.
The Astros took Gose in the Rule 5 Draft in December, but they put him on waivers after he appeared in just one Grapefruit League game for Houston. Gose walked all three batters he faced in that outing.
Gose is a five-year Major League veteran, having played 358 games in the outfield for the Blue Jays and Tigers. He switched to pitching last year, because he can throw 95-100 mph with his fastball. Gose pitched in 11 games with Class A Lakeland, allowing nine earned runs with 14 strikeouts and six walks in 10 2/3 innings.

The Rangers signed Gose as a Minor League free agent on Dec. 4, only to have the Astros take him 10 days later in the Rule 5 Draft. Texas will continue to try and develop him as a pitcher.
The Rangers also made their first roster cuts of the spring Friday. Pitchers Jonathan Hernández, Jeffrey Springs, Brett Martin and Ariel Jurado, infielder Andy Ibáñez and outfielder Jose Cardona were sent to the Minor Leagues.
