Archer, Jimenez lead arms battle in Rays vs. O's

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Pitchers ruled Saturday's Orioles-Rays contest at Charlotte Sports Park as Baltimore took a 1-0 win.
Blake Snell entered a scoreless game in the seventh. Baltimore's Chris Johnson greeted him with a ground-rule double to lead off the inning. Joey Rickard pinch-ran for Johnson and moved to third on a wild pitch. Logan Schafer then grounded out to shortstop to drive home Rickard and put the O's up 1-0.
It proved to be the only run of the game.
Chris Archer started for the Rays and looked dominating while pitching three perfect innings, striking out five Orioles in the process.
"I felt really good," Archer said. "The way everything was coming out of my hand: Changeup, fastball, breaking ball, everything felt good."
Ubaldo Jiménez pitched three innings for Baltimore, allowing three hits, struck out one, walked one and threw a wild pitch. Second baseman Robert Andino backed him with solid defense when he dove to his left to stop Jake Hager's sharply hit grounder, then threw to first for the final out in the second inning.
"I felt pretty good. I was able to command the fastball and work on what I needed to do, and I was getting my breaking ball for a strike. So I think I was able to do that," Jimenez said.
