ACL Dodgers explode for 32 runs, most at any level in 4 years
The big league Dodgers put together an impressive, power-packed win over the Athletics on Monday, mashing three home runs en route to a 9-4 victory. And yet, they didn’t even make it halfway to scoring the most runs across the organization.
The Arizona Complex League Dodgers put up 32 runs (!) in a nine-inning, 32-7 win over the crosstown rival Angels’ ACL affiliate. The outburst counted for the most runs scored in a single game at any level since 2022, when the Yankees’ Dominican Summer League affiliate also posted 32.
The ACL Dodgers used 30 hits on Tuesday to reach the milestone, a mark that has happened in four games across Minor League levels since 2019. The High-A Cedar Rapids Kernels recorded 30 hits on June 13 in a 23-15 win over Lansing; the Triple-A Sugar Land Cowboys had 30 hits in a 24-8 win over Albuquerque on May 7, 2023; and the DSL Yankees had 31 hits in a 38-2 win over the DSL Twins on July 3, 2019.
Believe it or not, things actually didn’t start very well for the ACL Dodgers on Monday. Angels No. 21 prospect Yilver De Paula hit a first-inning home run to take a 1-0 lead, which extended to 2-0 in the top of the second on a run-scoring double. That lead was short-lived.
The Dodgers posted 12 of their runs in the bottom of the second inning. They used eight hits, four home runs, two doubles, three walks and two hit-by-pitches to get the job done. The Angels responded with three runs in the top of the third, but it was simply too little, too late, with the Dodgers off and running.
After a scoreless home half of the third, the Dodgers put up at least one run in each of their final five trips to the plate. They tallied the rest of their 20 runs on an eight-run fourth, a five-run fifth, a two-run sixth, a one-run seventh and a four-run eighth.
Every single member of the Dodgers lineup recorded at least one hit, and nine of 10 players who recorded a plate appearance also picked up an RBI. Agustin Acosta led the squad with five hits, while two others had four hits. Abel Lorenzo took the crown with seven RBIs, including a three-run homer.
In total, the Dodgers hit five home runs, seven doubles and one triple while also reaching base with 10 walks and four hit-by-pitches.
