Friday's top 10 Arizona Fall League performers

Here are the top 10 performers from Friday, Sept. 27 in the Arizona Fall League.

Seth Beer, 1B/OF, D-backs No. 4
Beer hit his first homer of the AFL season as a part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate. He scored twice in addition to driving in a pair of runs. The No. 97 prospect in MLB was acquired from the Astros as a part of the Zack Greinke deal at the Trade Deadline, and he hit 26 home runs in his first full season of pro ball after being selected by the Astros in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Alec Bohm, 1B/3B and Spencer Howard, RHP, Phillies Nos. 1 and 2
Howard has yet to allow a run to score, while he keeps pushing his stock higher and higher. The hard-throwing righty, who struck out 94 batters in 71 innings in the Minor League season, punched out five batters in his three-inning start. Howard, the Phillies’ No. 2 prospect, sat at 97-98 mph in the first inning and operated more at 95-96 in his two subsequent frames. His mid-80s slider was sharp and netted him a swinging strikeout, and he also generated a pair of whiffs with his fading changeup in the low 80s. The two walks he issued both came in the first inning, and, overall, Howard threw 32 of 54 pitches for strikes in the outing.

Bohm struck out in his first two at-bats but rebounded to tally singles in his next two trips to the plate to finish 2-for-4 with one run scored. The Phillies’ top prospect is raking at a .450 clip through five games this fall.

Trey Harris, OF, Braves No. 18
Harris put Scottsdale on the board when he connected on a solo home run in the second inning that hit the batter’s eye in center field. The Braves’ No. 18 prospect’s homer was his second in the AFL and had an exit velocity of 105.6 mph, per Trackman, and he also hit a double in the contest before finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored. He’s batting .412 this fall after a breakout regular-season campaign in the Minors.

Kyle Isbel, OF, Royals No. 8
Isbel hit a pair of weak groundouts in his first two at-bats before delivering a double and a single, both of which plated a run, in his next two trips to the plate. The Royals’ No. 8 prospect flied out to the center-field wall in his final at-bat to finish 2-for-5 for Surprise.

Drew Strotman, RHP, Tampa Bay Rays
Strotman didn’t allow a Mesa batter to reach base until Jo Adell led off the fourth inning with a double. The four-inning outing was a bounceback for the fourth-round pick in the 2017 Draft, who was tagged for four runs in 2 2/3 innings in his Fall League debut. This time, the 23-year-old allowed just Adell’s hit while striking out three batters in a scoreless showing.

Julio Rodriguez, OF, Mariners No. 2
Rodriguez notched his fifth RBI in the Fall League with a single in the Javelinas' four-run first inning. That was the lone hit in the 18-year-old’s 1-for-4 night, but he also showed off with his second stolen base this fall, forcing an errant throw to allow another first-inning run to score.

Jared Oliva, OF, Pirates No. 11
Oliva had the strongest game of any Peoria batter, ripping two doubles, including an RBI knock in the four-run first inning, in which he also scored a run. The University of Arizona product is up to four doubles in seven games for the Javelinas.

Omar Estevez, SS/2B, Dodgers No. 15
Estevez led off for the Desert Dogs and did his job, getting on base via three singles and driving in fellow Dodgers prospect Jeren Kendall on a third-inning single.

Luis Garcia, SS, Nationals No. 2
Garcia, the third-youngest player in this year’s Fall League, went 3-for-4 to improve his Fall League average to .406. He tallied two singles and a double, his third this fall, and also swiped his second bag. He started at second base and batted second in the lineup on Friday.
