Correa to play two rehab games at Double-A

ST. PETERSBURG -- Carlos Correa's latest back-to-back was shifted to Double-A Corpus Christi, for whom he'll play shortstop Thursday and Friday at Frisco.
Assuming that Correa -- who has been out since July 17 with a torn left thumb ligament -- comes through those two games without any issues, those could be his final two rehab games before being activated.
"We'll re-evaluate on Saturday to see if he will join us after that," manager A.J. Hinch said. "We'll see the timeline, we'll see where he is and where they are, the possibility of playing whether it's Sunday in Houston or Monday in Seattle. If he can complete that and feel good, he should be ready to go."
Right-hander Lance McCullers (back) started Wednesday night for Corpus Christi, allowing two runs over five innings against Frisco. McCullers gave up five hits and a walk, striking out two batters in his second rehab start.
"We hope that to be his last start," Hinch said earlier in the day. "If he can get to the middle part of the game and use his pitches, throw a few more strikes, he's looking more and more like an activation here in the next few days."
Left-hander Tony Sipp threw an inning Tuesday night for Triple-A Fresno, allowing a run on two hits. He was slated to join the team in Tampa on Wednesday night to be evaluated by athletic trainers, though Hinch said he won't be activated until rosters expand in September.
