Hedges, Maton lead Triple-A El Paso to victory

Catcher Austin Hedges had a double and his 19th homer for three RBIs and right-handed reliever Phil Maton shut down an Albuquerque rally in the bottom of the sixth Friday night as Triple-A El Paso came from behind to defeat the Isotopes 10-4 and reduce their magic number to six. El Paso's victory widened their lead over Albuquerque to 5 ½ games with 10 games to play.
Meanwhile, right-hander Chris Huffman and two relievers combined for a three-hit shutout for Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore. And right-hander Cal Quantrill, the Padres' top pick in the June draft, allowed a run on three hits and no walks with five strikeouts in four innings for short-season Single-A Tri-City.
Hedges (.324) was 2-for-5 for the Chihuahuas. Center fielder Manuel Margot (.302) was 3-for-6 with his 28th steal for two RBIs and two runs scored. Right fielder Hunter Renfroe (.310) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Left fielder Nick Torres (.323) was 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Shortstop José Rondón (.286) was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Third baseman Nick Noonan (.310) was 1-for-3 with a two-run double. Diego Goris (.280) replaced Noonan and went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Right-hander Carlos Pimentel (5.93 earned run average) started for El Paso and allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Maton (1-0, 0.00 ERA) entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the sixth and struck out two Isotopes to end the threat. He finished with a walk and four strikeouts in a scoreless/hitless 1 2/3 innings .
Right-hander Jason Jester (5.54) allowed a hit with a strikeout in a scoreless inning. Right-hander Eric Yardley (3.23) struck out one in a perfect inning.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (33-27, 55-75): MISSIONS 3, Frisco 1: CF Franchy Cordero (.304) had a two-run triple in four at-bats with a run scored. 1B Luis Tejada (.240) was 1-for-3 with a run scored as the Missions had only two hits. 2B Nelson Ward (.227) was 0-for-1 with a walk and two steals (31 on the season). Starting LHP Tim Berry (2-3, 7.43 ERA) allowed a run on six hits and seven walks with three strikeouts in five innings. RHP Trey McNutt (3.00) struck out one in a perfect inning. LHP José Torres (1.24) struck out two in three innings. RHP Michael Dimock (3.00) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning for a save.
ADVANCED SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (32-29, 64-67) - Storm 12, HIGH DESERT 0: 2B Luis Urias (.327), the California League MVP and Rookie of the Year, was 3-for-6 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored. C Ricardo Valenzuela (.240) was 3-for-4 with his first homer and four RBIs. RF Franmil Reyes (.272) was 2-for-2 with his 16th homer, three walks and three runs scored. 3B Ty France (.320) was 3-for-6 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored. CF Michael Gettys (.304) was 2-for-6 with two runs scored. 1B Josh Naylor (.264) was 2-for-6 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored. LF Taylor Kohlwey (.302) was 2-for-6 with a run scored. Huffman (10-5, 3.71 ERA) allowed three hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over six scoreless innings. RHP Mark Zimmerman (3.18) pitched a perfect inning. SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (23-38, 59-72) - TIN CAPS 2, West Michigan 1: C Marcus Greene Jr. (.256) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth. 2B Peter Van Gansen (.227) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. SS Chris Baker (.217) was 2-for-4 with a double. LF Kodie Tidwell (.246) was 2-for-4. Starting RHP Anderson Espinoza (5.08) allowed a run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings. RHP Blake Rogers (4.89) allowed a hit and two walks with four strikeouts in three scoreless innings. RHP David Bednar (3.18) pitched a perfect inning to get his third save.

RHP Daniel Erb (2-1, 2.78 ERA) allowed two runs on four hits with a strikeout in three innings. RHP Jesse Scholtens (1.54) allowed a walk with five strikeouts in two hitless/scoreless innings. SS Hudson Potts (.308) was 2-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored. C Kyle Overstreet (.241) was 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. RF Luis Asuncion (.243) was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. 1B G.K. Young (.217) was 1-for-4 with a two-run double.
