PITTSBURGH -- The Twins’ already strained starting pitching depth took another hit Sunday, when the club placed right-hander Bailey Ober on the 15-day injured list with what it is calling right elbow inflammation.

Ober, 30, allowed eight runs (seven earned) in 4 2/3 innings on Saturday, though that line was somewhat misleading due to a ball misplayed in the sun that cost him five runs. Still, he’s been touched for seven homers over his last three starts after an excellent start to the season. Ober is 6-3 with a 4.59 ERA on the year.

In addition, Minnesota optioned right-handed reliever John Klein to Triple-A St. Paul. To fill the two roster spots, the club selected the contract of right-hander Mike Paredes and recalled right-hander Travis Adams from St. Paul.

Ober joins Pablo López and Mick Abel as Twins starters on the injured list. Reliever Kendry Rojas, who has made one start and was scheduled for another, is also on the IL, and Simeon Woods Richardson was designated for assignment on Saturday.
