Obama visits Nationals Youth Baseball Academy
Every day at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is a special one, but recently some of the Scholar-Athletes participating in the after-school program had a day they'll never forget. In the final week of the program for the academic year, the students were participating in outdoor field activities when former President Barack Obama surprised them with a visit.
President Obama took a turn at bat and joined in games of football and kickball. He offered a few words of encouragement to the students on the value of teamwork and education, and visited the on-site farmers market, which provides healthy and affordable produce to neighborhood families.
The Youth Baseball Academy uses baseball, softball and after-school enrichment to foster positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health among underserved youth in DC.
