Benny Montgomery, the eighth overall pick by the Rockies in the 2021 Draft, has retired from professional baseball.
Montgomery, 23, was hitting .203 with a .644 OPS in 41 games this season for Double-A Hartford, where he has spent each of the past three injury-plagued seasons.
He posted a .249/.325/.374 slash line in 323 Minor League games across parts of six seasons in the Rockies organization.
Colorado selected Montgomery with its first-round pick in 2021 out of Red Land HS in Lewisberry, Pa. The dynamic outfielder earned Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year honors as a high school senior.
But Montgomery’s professional career was derailed in part by a slew of injuries. He only played more than 100 games in a season once, back in 2023.
