Bernie to be guest instructor for Yanks

Bernie Williams is returning to the Yankees for another spring, arriving in Tampa on Saturday to serve as a guest instructor at Spring Training.

Williams is reporting to Yankees camp and will work as an instructor for the next few days. The longtime star outfielder -- who played all 16 seasons of his career in pinstripes and won four World Series as part of the late-1990s Yankees dynasty -- has been a Spring Training guest instructor for New York before.

The Yankees legend will perform the national anthem and throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Yankees' game against the Phillies at Steinbrenner Field on Wednesday, which is Breathless Night. Williams is a national spokesman for the Breathless campaign, which raises awareness for Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis -- the disease that took the life of Williams' father.

Williams, a Latin Grammy-nominated guitarist, will also be playing a concert -- "Bernie Williams and Friends" -- on Monday night in Clearwater at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Murray Theatre at Ruth Eckerd Hall. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Yankees radio broadcaster Suzyn Waldman will hold a Q-and-A with Williams before the concert, talking about his baseball and music careers as well as his role with Breathless in connection with IPF.

Tickets to the concert are available on the Ruth Eckerd Hall website. VIP tickets include premium seats, a meet-and-greet with Williams and a goodie bag with an autographed photo, concert T-shirt and Topps trading card of Williams as a guitar player.
