Flip tag! This player went above and beyond on his rehab assignment

Blaze Alexander left hand must be feeling OK.

The Orioles infielder, who has been out since suffering a non-displaced fracture in his left hand after being hit by a pitch on July 12, made a jaw-dropping, somersaulting, airborne tag during his first rehab appearance for Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. That the 27-year-old went 0-for-3 at the plate matters less than his ridiculous acrobatic play at third base to record an out in the first inning. With a runner attempting to steal third, Alexander caught the throw from the catcher and did a flip while somehow applying the tag on the sliding runner.

Alexander was a key player and bright spot in his first season with the Orioles before suffering his injury. Acquired this February from the D-backs, Alexander has an .807 OPS in 82 games this season. He’s also been a versatile player, appearing at six different positions for the O’s.
