Blue Jays add reliever Cole from Triple-A

NEW YORK -- The Blue Jays purchased the contract of right-hander Taylor Cole from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Friday's series opener against the Yankees.
Right-hander Aaron Sanchez was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Cole on the 40-man roster. Sanchez was ruled out for the season earlier this month because of a damaged tendon in his right middle finger.
Cole will get to finish the year with the big league club after previously making his Major League debut with the Blue Jays on Aug. 9. Cole pitched one inning in an 11-5 loss to the Yankees, but he broke a toe on his right foot during that game and was later released.
The 28-year-old made nine appearances in the Minor Leagues this season and did not allow an earned run over 12 2/3 innings.
Pillar leaves Blue Jays for birth of child
Kevin Pillar has left the Blue Jays to attend the birth of his first child and will miss the rest of the regular season.
Outfielder Teoscar Hernández got the start in center field on Friday afternoon and is expected to remain there for the final two games in New York. Ezequiel Carrera got the start at left field in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Yankees.
Unless Pillar makes an unexpected return by Sunday, he finishes the season with a .256 average, 16 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases.
