Blue Jays get utility man Refsnyder from Yanks

CLEVELAND -- The Blue Jays and Yankees pulled off a Minor League deal on Sunday afternoon, with Toronto acquiring utlity man Rob Refsnyder and sending first baseman Ryan McBroom the other way.
Refsnyder, who was designated for assignment by New York earlier this week, will report to Triple-A Buffalo. He provides Toronto with some additional depth at second base and the corner-outfield positions.
McBroom was ranked Toronto's No. 30 prospect by MLBPipeline.com. The 25-year-old was hitting .243 (84-for-346) with 12 homers and 54 RBIs in 96 games for Double-A New Hampshire this season. Over four Minor League seasons, McBroom has hit .280/.343/.459 with 57 homers and 288 RBIs in 421 games.
Refsnyder has the ability to play all over the field, but it's at second base where his opportunity might come with the Blue Jays. Devon Travis is out until at least September with a knee injury and Troy Tulowitzki is considered day to day with a left groin ailment. Ryan Goins and Darwin Barney have been playing up the middle, but the club lacked depth beyond those two.
The 26-year-old Refsynder is known a lot more for his bat than glove. He's a .292/.372/.424 hitter over parts of four seasons at Triple-A and he's appeared in 94 games at the big league level, but never really found a permanent home in New York. He's a .241/.312/.332 hitter in the Major Leagues, with a pair of home runs and 17 RBIs.
