TORONTO -- Blue Jays left fielder Steve Pearce left Friday night's 5-4 loss to the Tigers after the first inning with stiffness in his lower back.
Pearce struck out looking in the bottom of the first inning and then did not return to the field. Rookie Teoscar Hernández replaced Pearce in left field and took over the top spot in the lineup.
It was not immediately clear how Pearce sustained the injury. He did not make a defensive play in the top of the first, but he did swing at two pitches before his strikeout.
