Newly acquired Smith homers for 2nd straight game at Double-A

Just three games into his time in the Mariners’ organization, Boston Smith already has two home runs.
Smith, Seattle’s new No. 14 prospect after the Luis Castillo trade with the White Sox, went deep for the second consecutive game on Thursday. It provided some key insurance in a 4-1 win for Double-A Arkansas over Amarillo at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Smith’s homer came in the sixth inning. With Arkansas leading 1-0, he followed a pair of walks with a three-run shot, pulling a two-strike pitch deep down the right-field line.
Smith also singled in the first inning, giving him a 2-for-4 day, his first multi-hit outing with Arkansas.
Interestingly, the 23-year-old catcher has been traded twice this year after being a sixth-round Draft pick of the Nationals a year ago. He went to the White Sox in the offseason Curtis Mead trade before the Castillo flip at the Trade Deadline.
That hasn’t stopped him from a big-time power breakout in his first professional season. Smith has rocketed from Single-A to Double-A this year, posting a 1.039 OPS with 24 home runs across all four levels.
