Tigers engage in 'team bonding' with paintball

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Tigers were near the bottom of the Grapefruit League standings entering Thursday's game against the Mets, so Wednesday's off-day was an opportunity for players to take out their frustrations with a few games of paintball.
Manager Brad Ausmus even got into the act.

"My team won. My team beat [defensive coach] Matt Martin's team handily," Ausmus said before Thursday's game at First Data Field. "I haven't played in 20-something years."
Ausmus said there were two eight-man teams pitted against each other, but they set some ground rules -- "no diving, no rolling on the ground" -- as a cautionary measure before engaging in about 20 games.
"I wanted to have a little team bonding and some fun, but we don't want anyone getting hurt," Ausmus said of the unusual off-day outing. "It was good. The guys had a lot of fun. It's actually a pretty good workout. You end up sweating a ton. It was a good team bonding outing for the 16 guys who went."
