Miller exits after getting plunked on elbow

NEW YORK -- Brad Miller started at shortstop for the Rays in their 5-4 loss to the Yankees on Thursday night for the first time since Aug. 7, but he never actually got to play there. 
Now, Miller is just hoping he'll be able to play somewhere when the Rays play the Yankees again Friday. 
Miller's right elbow was still sore when he left Yankee Stadium, four hours after he was hit by a CC Sabathia fastball in the top of the first inning. Miller took the field in the bottom of the inning, but he played first base while Nick Franklin switched to shortstop. 
Even at first base, Miller struggled to make even simple throws, and he left the game when the inning was over. Alexei Ramirez, who signed with the club earlier in the day, came in at shortstop, with Franklin switching back to first base. 
X-rays on Miller's elbow were negative, but Miller said he will need to see how he feels Friday before knowing whether he'll be able to play.
