ATLANTA – Pirates designated hitter Brandon Lowe left Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Braves in the middle of his ninth-inning at-bat after fouling a pitch off his right knee.
The swing came with a 1-1 count and two outs in the ninth. Lowe doubled over in pain and was helped off the field. Manager Don Kelly did not have an update on Lowe’s status after the game.
“It was a scary moment,” said Kelly. “He’s getting checked out by the staff. Hopefully we’ll have something soon. … It looked like [a foul ball] right around the knee. I know it didn’t hit his leg guard, so I’m hoping for the best there.”
Lowe’s .848 OPS leads Pittsburgh, and he’s slashing .249/.333/.515. He also leads the Pirates in home runs (15) and has the second most RBIs (41) behind Oneil Cruz (44).
