CINCINNATI -- Brandon Williamson took his first step toward a return to the big leagues this season with two innings of work for Double-A Chattanooga on Saturday night in Birmingham, Ala., before a rain delay.
The lefty, placed on the injured list in April with left shoulder fatigue, made his first rehab start for the Lookouts against the Birmingham Barons, allowing one run on zero hits. Williamson struck out three and walked two while tossing 39 pitches, 22 for strikes before rain delayed the game before the bottom of the third inning.
Williamson hit the first batter he faced in the first and walked the next before getting out of the inning after allowing a run-scoring groundout. Williamson struck out a pair in a scoreless second inning.
Williamson was 2-3 with a 6.11 ERA in six starts for the Reds. He landed on the IL after allowing four runs on four hits in three innings against Colorado on April 29 at Great American Ball Park.
