Braves-Mets postponed Sunday; straight doubleheader on Monday

NEW YORK -- The rain hasn’t been fun. Monday’s doubleheader should be.

The Braves and Mets were rained out again on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field. The game will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Monday. The first game will begin at 1:10 p.m. ET and the second game will start approximately 30 minutes after the first game concludes.

Mother Nature has certainly been in charge throughout this key division series. The Braves claimed a 4-0, rain-shortened win in Friday’s five-inning series opener. Rain has led to the Mets postponing games on both Saturday and Sunday at least three hours before the scheduled first pitch.

Spencer Strider and Charlie Morton will serve as Atlanta’s starters during Monday’s doubleheader. Strider will be pitching with two extra days of rest when he starts the first game. Morton will be pitching with an extra day of rest when he takes the mound for the second game.

With Strider and Morton forced to pitch on the same day, the Braves may now have to promote a pitcher to start Friday’s series opener against the Orioles at Truist Park. Michael Soroka would be in line to start on regular rest after he makes his scheduled start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. Jared Shuster could be another option.
