Coppolella talks offseason during Twitter Q&A

ATLANTA -- Braves general manager John Coppolella admitted he has a lingering interest in Chris Archer, discussed some offseason plans and cited National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation as his favorite holiday movie during Thursday afternoon's three-hour session of #AskCoppy, a popular fan Q&A periodically conducted via the team's Twitter account (@braves).
When asked what he would like for Christmas, Coppolella responded, "Archer or another ace-type pitcher. In all seriousness, just health & happiness for family & friends. I don't need anything else."

But Coppolella would have liked to have had left-hander Chris Sale at the right cost, specifically not Dansby Swanson, and he obviously hasn't given up on the thought of acquiring Archer, despite the fact that the Rays' demands have thus far exceeded his comfort zone. Though tireless in his efforts, Coppolella also provided this realistic response to a trade-related question: "90% of trades (discussed) never happen, but you still go down the rabbit hole."

Coppolella reiterated he's comfortable going into the season with Tyler Flowers and Anthony Recker as the Braves' catchers, but he responded to a question about this position by tweeting "if something crazy falls into our lap we would have to consider."

The Braves have never shown much interest in free-agent catcher Matt Wieters. But to at least acknowledge the slim chance the market could significantly change as time passes, Coppolella responded to a question about the veteran with, "never say never, but it would have to make sense for him and for us."

Most of the Braves' offseason focus centered on the additions of Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey and Jaime García to a rotation that will once again include Julio Teheran. Mike Foltynewicz remains the favorite to fill the other spot, but during this session with fans, Coppolella once again delivered a motivational message by saying Foltynewicz, Matt WislerAaron Blair and John Danks will compete for that final spot.
When a fan pointed out that Danks, who signed a Minor League contract this past week, has struggled over each of the past five seasons, Coppolella provided this humorous response: "He's due for a good season."

There's a chance the versatile Sean Rodríguez will get a majority of the playing time at second base, at least until Ozzie Albies recovers from his elbow fracture and is deemed Major League ready. Coppolella said Albies is slightly ahead of schedule and could resume baseball activities in January. This would seemingly provide the highly regarded prospect a better opportunity to be at full strength throughout Spring Training.
Along with throwing out a #RIPHarambe when asked which 2016 celebrity death hit him the hardest, Coppolella lightheartedly mentioned "Killing Gatorade coolers" as one of Rodriguez's best attributes. He drew more laughs and provided another example of his humility when he responded, "Not the first time I have heard this" after receiving a tweet that simply read: "you're an idiot."
