Cabrera uncorks 103.8-mph fastball vs. Reds

CINCINNATI -- Working mop-up duty in the eighth inning of the Braves' 8-2 loss to the Reds on Monday, reliever Mauricio Cabrera reached back and threw the hardest pitch of his Major League career.
On a 2-2 pitch to pinch-hitter Tyler Holt, Cabrera threw a 103.8-mph fastball for ball three. Not only was it the fastest pitch Cabrera has ever thrown, but it was the fastest thrown by any pitcher not named Aroldis Chapman in the Statcast™ era.
"When you're toting 100-something around, it's a pretty good weapon," Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

Cabrera has been effective out of the bullpen since being recalled from Double-A Mississippi on June 27. In nine appearances, he's thrown 8 1/3 innings with a 2.16 ERA and seven scoreless outings, including one scoreless inning with a strikeout on Monday.
"I like how he got through that inning, under control and did a really good job, one of the first clean innings I've given him, seems like," Snitker said. "He's a young kid that's going to continue to grow and get better. … He's got a good feel of the breaking ball, too. That's really, sometimes when guys throw like that, it comes down the road. That's good to see that."
Cabrera's pitch comes on a night where Chapman tied his own Statcast™ record, throwing a 105.1 mph fastball and recording a save in the Yankees 2-1 win over Baltimore.
