Braves' No. 16 prospect proving he's more than just an elite speedster

At the end of the 2025 Minor League season, Patrick Clohisy was viewed as a prospect with one exemplary tool. He had swiped a system-leading 79 bases, but his .681 OPS ranked 29th among Braves Minor Leaguers (min. 100 plate appearances).
Just under a year later, the Braves' No. 16 prospect has emerged as much more than a future pinch-runner.
Over 108 games this season, Clohisy has slashed .294/.377/.465 with 10 homers. In addition to once again pacing the system with 59 stolen bases, he also leads with 28 doubles. His name checks in near the top of leaderboards for hits (117), runs (72), triples (5) and extra-base hits (43) as well.
Not ranked among MLB Pipeline's Top 250 Draft prospects in 2024, the 11th-rounder fit the profile of a traditional leadoff hitter across two seasons for the St. Louis Billikens. He hit .332 as a sophomore and .380 as a junior, stealing 24 bases in both campaigns. However, he didn't show much pop, tempering his ceiling as a pro.
Well, it turns out that speed is a potent tool.
Clohisy ran rampant in the Arizona Fall League in 2025 to close out his first full season. He routinely showed up among the league's top weekly performers and posted a .284/.390/.383 line with 19 runs and 22 steals in 21 games.
The 24-year-old's chaos-inducing style of play led to a strong end of the season. That then blossomed into a full-on breakout.
After performing well at Double-A to start 2026, Clohisy was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett on July 11, marking his fourth level in two full seasons. Since the move, he has the third-most hits (48) at the level while slashing .358/.439/.507. Clohisy still tallies primarily singles, but he notches his fair share of doubles thanks to his wheels.
Baseball Savant classifies a "Bolt" as any run at or above 30 ft/sec. With a run at that speed registering as elite, Bolts are one of the best ways to truly separate the cream of the crop.
Statcast isn't installed in Double-A parks, so Clohisy's numbers are limited to his time in the Triple-A International League, but he has six Bolts in 38 games. His fastest of the bunch was a 31.6 ft/sec sprint that registered as the fastest recorded by a Gwinnett player this season.
At the big league level, just four Braves players currently on the roster (Lane Thomas, Michael Harris II, Brewer Hicklen and Ronald Acuña Jr.) have recorded even one Bolt in 2026. Thomas -- acquired from Kansas City just prior to the Trade Deadline -- is the only player from that group with six or more.
Looking at stolen bases, Atlanta had the third-fewest thefts in the National League (51) prior to Acuña's return on July 27. The 2023 NL MVP is the only player on the club with double-digit steals.
In the field, the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder uses that speed to cover a ton of ground, giving him plus range. He's shown a penchant for making spectacular catches, routinely laying out to take away hits. Clohisy has spent time at all three outfield spots, but signs point to him sticking in center.

Back in the fall, Clohisy spoke with MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo about his elite run tool:
"I would just say get in scoring position, getting on base for the middle of the order, whoever is following after you, it's kind of for the team," Clohisy said. "It may not always be the prettiest thing, but as long as you know you're out there for the team producing runs, providing all you can, that's what you focus on."
