NEW YORK -- On Monday, the game between the Cardinals and Mets was postponed because of rain. For Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan, that was OK because he was able to make special plans with his girlfriend, Aly Kitchens, that day.

While touring Times Square during the unexpected off-day, Donovan popped the question and she said yes. Donovan did not announce when the wedding will take place.

“I didn’t plan on doing it at all, but we had a rainout. I had the ring with me,” said Donovan, who scored the go-ahead run in the Cardinals' 4-3 victory in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader. “My fiancée loves New York City. I said ‘Let’s go walk around.' It was a cool moment for us.”

The couple have been together for five years since they attended University of South Alabama. Donovan said Aly is his support system and comes from a great family.

“She is my rock. I don’t want to spend my life with anyone else [but her],” Donovan said.
