ATLANTA -- Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos continued to bolster his pitching staff when he acquired left-handed reliever Brent Suter from the Angels in exchange for Nacho Alvarez Jr. on Monday morning.
TRADE DETAILS
Braves will receive: LHP Brent Suter
Angels will receive: INF Nacho Alvarez Jr.
Outfielder Lane Thomas, right-handed starter Tyler Mahle and Suter have all been acquired over the past three days. Anthopoulos could still add to his bullpen and possibly gain a frontline starter before today’s 6 p.m. ET Trade Deadline.
Suter has produced a 4.12 ERA while logging 63 1/3 innings over 41 appearances (three starts) for the Angels this year. The 36-year-old southpaw is a reverse splits guy, allowing a .656 OPS against right-handed hitters and an .828 OPS against left-handed hitters. He has a 2.51 ERA in nine appearances since the start of July.
Alvarez is a former highly regarded prospect who has been burdened by injuries over the past few years. He hit .216 with two homers and a .575 OPS while totaling 240 plate appearances for Atlanta from 2024-25. He had a .663 OPS in 37 games for Triple-A Gwinnett this year.
