Saladino headed for DL with sprained ankle

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers shortstop Tyler Saladino will be heading to the disabled list, according to manager Craig Counsell.
Saladino sprained his left ankle and X-rays were negative after he was helped off the field Tuesday night during the third inning of the Brewers' 6-1 loss to the Cardinals at Miller Park.
With the bases loaded in the third, second baseman Hernán Pérez fielded a chopping ground ball and flipped it to Saladino at second for the forceout as Saladino's left ankle awkwardly twisted against the base. Medical staff helped Saladino off the field, with the Brewers trailing the Cardinals, 4-0.
Counsell said an option for replacing Saladino is to bring back Opening Day shortstop Orlando Arcia, who was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs last Friday amid an offensive slump.
"[Arcia is] a candidate, yeah," Counsell said.

Arcia is 4-for-15 through four games in Triple-A but has three hits in his past eight at-bats. The Sky Sox begin a home series vs. Iowa on Wednesday.
Saladino was acquired by the Brewers from the White Sox for future considerations in April. The 28-year-old infielder spent his first three seasons in Chicago and was penciled in as the Brewers' starting shortstop after Arcia's demotion.
"It's unfortunate," Counsell said. "Tyler was getting a chance to play pretty regularly, and he was doing a nice job. It's just one of those bad-luck things."
In place of Saladino, Eric Sogard went 1-for-2 with a walk. Sogard was recalled from Triple-A when Arcia was sent down.
When asked what Saladino's imminent DL stint could mean for him, Sogard said he'll be ready for whatever is asked.
"Who knows?" Sogard said. "I'm always ready to play every day, so we'll see what happens."
