Diaz, Gonzalez looking to extend streaks

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch:Isan Díaz (Brewers' No. 5), Carolina vs. Buies Creek (11 a.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Diaz, ranked 58th on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, bumped his home run total to five on Tuesday by going deep in a third straight game for Class A Advanced Carolina. The 20-year-old shortstop is batting 16-for-45 with 10 extra-base hits and 15 RBIs during his current 12-game hitting streak, during which he's raised his average from .208 to .299.

Pitcher to watch: Merandy Gonzalez (Mets' No. 14), Columbia vs. Delmarva (11:05 a.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Gonzalez has yet to allow a run this season in 28 1/3 innings for Class A Columbia. In his most recent turn, the 21-year-old righty allowed five hits with five strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings en route to his fourth win in as many starts. He's held opposing hitters to a .160 average in that span, striking out 23 and walking just three.

Duel of the day: Patrick Weigel (Braves' No. 15) vs. Matt Cooper (White Sox No. 28), Mississippi at Birmingham (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Weigel, 22, pitched well late last season in his four starts for Double-A Mississippi, despite making the jump directly from Class A Rome. He's picked up this season right where he left off, posting a 2.73 ERA across his first five starts. He's struck out 28 batters in 26 1/3 innings in that stretch, with 22 hits allowed and nine walks.

Cooper, much like Weigel, enjoyed a breakout 2016 campaign, as he led all White Sox farmhands with 10.8 strikeouts-per-nine while working a career-high 118 2/3 innings between Class A Advanced Winston-Salem and Birmingham. The 25-year-old righty -- who pitched exclusively out of the bullpen for the Barons last season -- has continued his bat-missing ways, posting a 2.70 ERA with a 30-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 20 innings (four starts) in his return to the Southern League.
