OD starters falter as Crew walks off vs. Tribe

PHOENIX -- It was still only Spring Training, but these were not the outings that Corey Kluber and Junior Guerra wanted to propel them into Opening Day.
Cleveland's Kluber allowed a pair of opposite-field home runs to Orlando Arcia and a solo shot to Ryan Braun, while the Brewers' Guerra surrendered nine hits without making it through the end of the fourth inning of Milwaukee's 13-12 walk-off win on Tuesday at Maryvale Baseball Park.
Both right-handers will start for their teams on Monday's Opening Day, Kluber in Texas and Guerra at home against Colorado. They will aim for better results than Tuesday's, when Kluber surrendered five earned runs on six hits, including the Brewers' trio of homers, with two walks and six strikeouts. Guerra allowed four earned runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings, with two walks, two strikeouts and a wild pitch.

"He's ready," Indians manager Terry Francona said of Kluber. "He's strong. He's in good shape. His arm feels good. He's ready to go make a lot of starts. Obviously, you hope a guy comes out of the chute. But sometimes it takes guys some time, regardless of who you are, to kind of get on a roll."
Including his previous outing against Oakland, in which Guerra was touched for four home runs, he allowed 16 runs (11 earned) on 19 hits and four walks over his final 7 1/3 Cactus League innings.
"Both last outing and this outing, I think I'm probably over-thinking a little too much out there," Guerra said. "That's a little adjustment I have to make. Now I can't do anything about it, just make the adjustment for next week to get the season started on the right foot."

The late innings turned into a home run derby as the teams traded leads. Arcia, Braun, Eric Sogard and Jesús Aguilar all homered for the Brewers, and Hosea Nelson and Ronny Rodríguez went deep for the Indians. The teams traded five-run scoring rallies in the eighth, capped by Aguilar's game-tying three-run home run, his sixth long ball this spring. Brewers manager Craig Counsell announced after the game that Aguilar, a February waiver claim from the Indians, had made Milwaukee's Opening Day roster.

The Brewers won with an unearned run in the ninth on Minor Leaguer Mitch Ghelfi's walk-off single.
In the seventh, Indians non-roster invitee Daniel Robertson exited the game with a leg injury after trying to stretch a bases-loaded double into a triple. Robertson is headed to Triple-A to start the year.

In a better development for the Indians, left fielder Michael Brantley, playing the first of three straight scheduled games coming back from right shoulder and biceps issues, went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
"Michael's in a really good spot right now," said Chris Antonetti, the Indians' president of baseball operations. "Right now, it's just a question of building up volume. As long as that continues to go in the right direction, then we'll be in a good spot for the start of the season."

Indians Up Next: Right-hander Carlos Carrasco is scheduled to start for the Indians in a 3:05 p.m. ET Cactus League tilt against the Reds on Wednesday at Goodyear Ballpark. It will mark Carrasco's final tuneup for his April 4 season debut at Texas. Expect regulars like Brantley, Francisco Lindor and Edwin Encarnación to be in the lineup for the Tribe.
