Pina, Shaw day to day with minor injuries

MILWAUKEE -- A 10-2 loss to the Cardinals was made more painful for the Brewers by the early exits of catcher Manny Piña and third baseman Travis Shaw, each of whom were deemed day to day with minor injuries.
Shaw left as a precaution in the sixth inning because of soreness in his bruised and battered right foot. Two innings earlier, Pina tweaked his right hip lunging for a pitch in the dirt and was replaced by a pinch-hitter.
"When I blocked the ball, I felt something pinch me in the hip flexor. It was kind of bad," said Pina, who was seen wincing on the play. "So after that, when I try to squat, that bothered me a little bit."
He hoped to be back in action as early as Wednesday, but with a day game and right-hander Carlos Martínez on the mound for the Cardinals, the Brewers may have planned to start lefty-swinging Stephen Vogt from the start.
Shaw, meanwhile, began to experience soreness in his right foot as the night progressed and left as a precaution, manager Craig Counsell said. Shaw has played much of August with black-and-blue marks dotting his right leg and foot from a series of foul tips, most recently last Wednesday night in San Francisco.
