Brewers-Royals game postponed due to rain; split DH Saturday
Due to inclement weather moving through the Kansas City area, Friday night’s series opener between the Royals and Brewers has been postponed. Instead, the teams are scheduled to play a split doubleheader on Saturday at Kauffman Stadium.
Saturday’s originally scheduled game will be moved up to 1:10 p.m. CT, with Friday’s makeup game scheduled for 6:10 p.m. CT.
Both games will be available on Royals.TV and Brewers.TV.
Friday’s tickets will be honored for the rescheduled game Saturday at 6:10 p.m. CT. Fans do not have to exchange their original tickets if they elect to attend the rescheduled game. The Royals had planned to recognize their World Baseball Classic participants – and Team Venezuela champions – before Saturday’s originally scheduled game, and that will still take place before Game 2 on Saturday night. Fireworks Friday, presented by Price Chopper and Oreo, will begin after the second game Saturday. More information can be found at royals.com/weather.
The Royals will have No. 9 prospect Luinder Avila, who was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Friday, pitch Game 1 on Saturday opposite the Brewers’ Chad Patrick – both of whom were scheduled to start Friday’s game.
Game 2 will feature Royals right-hander Seth Lugo on the mound against Brewers right-hander Brandon Sproat.
The Royals called up Avila, their No. 9 prospect, to start Friday’s game in lieu of Michael Wacha, who came down with an illness in recent days. The Royals don’t expect Wacha to miss more than one start and could reshuffle their rotation next week to bring him back before his turn comes up again. In a corresponding move for Avila, the Royals placed lefty Bailey Falter on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation.
Both teams will be able to call up a 27th man for Saturday’s doubleheader.
