In a pregame ceremony ahead of the MLB at Field of Dreams Game presented by John Deere on Thursday night, Bryce Harper emerged from the cornfields along with a few of his Phillies teammates.
As it turns out, he took plenty of corn with him onto the diamond, too, during his team's 7-1 win over Minnesota.
Harper embraced the opportunity to showcase his style, arriving decked out in corn-themed paraphernalia. It was a fitting outfit for the occasion in Dyersville, Iowa, where the storybook field is surrounded by corn.
Harper left no kernel unturned, either. He sported yellow arm sleeves that mimicked corn cobs, and rocked custom yellow cleats with green bottoms, resembling a corn stalk.
The best corn-related accessory may very well have been Harper’s lumber, a “corn bat,” as he told Lauren Shehadi on the Netflix broadcast. Designed by Victus Sports, it was dark green on one side and yellow on the other, with the barrel showing off the corn kernels. It sure looked like the bat itself was husked. And to top it all off, there was a slab of butter toward the end of the barrel with Harper's initials melted into it.
Harper has shown off his personality and creativity in big moments before. Memorably, he donned custom Phillie Phanatic cleats in his Phillies debut back in 2019, an homage to the franchise’s iconic and lovable mascot, who also enjoyed his field trip to Iowa this week.
