Deadline acquistion Doval DFA'd by Pirates; Yates activated off IL

PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates have designated right-handed reliever Camilo Doval for assignment. The former All-Star and National League saves leader was acquired ahead of the Trade Deadline from the Yankees in exchange for prospects Omar Alfonzo and Luis Cruz.
Pittsburgh acquired Doval as a project piece, looking to restore his talents after a rough go in the Bronx. In 20 games (19 innings) with the Pirates, Doval posted a 3.79 ERA and walked 14 batters. Veteran Kirby Yates was activated from the 15-Day injured list as Doval’s replacement on the active roster.
Doval was out of options and will need to clear waivers to stick in the Pirates organization.
