Trevor Condon made his professional debut on Tuesday, and he showed off pretty much everything that made the Cardinals select him with the 13th overall pick in the 2026 Draft.
Condon, now rated as St. Louis’ No. 6 prospect, finished the game 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base for Single-A Palm Beach. He helped the Cardinals defeat Fort Myers 8-7 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Condon’s first career hit went for a ground-rule double down the left-field line, a fly ball that the Fort Myers left fielder couldn’t quite handle up against the wall. It bounced out of play for the automatic two-bagger, and in the very next at-bat, Condon came around to score Palm Beach’s first run of the game on a Ryan Mitchell single.
The 18-year-old center fielder’s second hit was a 99.3 mph liner back up the middle. He promptly stole second base but was stranded there.
Condon’s day was done there, as Palm Beach delivered a walk-off win off the bat of Matthew Miura in the first-rounder’s debut. But he also tacked on a hard-hit 95.2 mph line drive that was caught in the third inning.
Tuesday’s game was emblematic of what the Cardinals hope to see from Condon. He receives a 60 grade for his hit tool (best in the organization), with the ability to put bat to ball at a high clip. He’ll also generate strong exit velocities, like his two line drives, but doesn’t always pull the ball in the air to generate power. The real prize is his 70-grade speed -- tied for the best in the St. Louis system -- shown on his stolen base.
“I can get people riled up, but I can also get the motors turning for my team,” Condon said before the Draft. “I flip the energy immediately. Even if it’s down 5-0 and just hitting a double, that’s the little turn you need. That takes you a lot farther than running or my bat goes, because as you get older, you lose speed. But I can’t lose this personality; this is who I am.”
Condon, rated as MLB Pipeline’s No. 13 Draft prospect this year, won Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year honors this season after hitting .504 and leading Etowa High School to a state title. The former Tennessee commit is now off and running in the professional ranks.
