Rosenthal to make first start since 2012

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Right-hander Trevor Rosenthal is scheduled to start Thursday when the Cardinals face the Mets at home in Jupiter, manager Mike Matheny said before his team faced the Twins on Wednesday.
Rosenthal hasn't pitched in about two weeks because of lat muscle discomfort suffered while working out in the weight room.
Matheny was unsure how deep into the game Rosenthal would go.
"Not very far, as far as pitch count goes," Matheny said. "I don't have the exact number for you right now but he's not going to be stretched out. We're just kind of getting him going again."
Rosenthal has appeared in two Grapefruit League games this season, going three combined innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. He is not a likely candidate for the rotation -- he last started in 2012 for Double-A Springfield -- but could get stretched out enough to be a multi-inning reliever.

"I don't really know what the plan is," Rosenthal told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch back in camp. "I just have to get out there and pitch. I can't really put my name in the hat for something I'm not doing.
"It's a long season ahead now so I want to just continue to get back where I was.
"We did the MRI and I wasn't at a huge risk to make it worse but with the experience that the training staff had had with stuff with the lat, it could either be worse than it seemed or take a little bit longer. With that particular muscle, they wanted to be extra cautious and that probably cost me more days than what it would have initially if it was some other body part."

• Closer Seunghwan Oh is back in camp after pitching in the World Baseball Classic for Korea, which was eliminated in the first round. Matheny said Oh could be back in a game on Thursday. Oh has made one Grapefruit League appearance this spring, going one inning on Feb. 25 against the Marlins, giving up three runs on three hits, including two home runs, with one strikeout.
• Matheny said first baseman Matt Carpenter, who has been sidelined with back tightness, is close to returning to game activity.
