CINCINNATI -- With a postponement due to weather on Sunday, the Cardinals’ rainy three-game series against the Reds ended with a doubleheader on Saturday as the only action, which the teams split.

The teams will make up the game as the first game of a split doubleheader on Aug. 17 at 1:40 p.m. ET.

The proverbial silver lining for St. Louis is that the club will head into its series in Milwaukee with a rested pitching staff. During Saturday’s doubleheader -- after Friday’s game was rained out -- the Cardinals deployed all eight of their relievers, who threw combined 127 pitches.

24-year-old Brycen Mautz, the Cardinals' No. 20 prospect and a second-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, was scheduled to make his big league debut on Sunday. The 6-foot-3 southpaw is expected to travel with the team to Milwaukee and could be part of the pitch mix, although the club hadn’t finalized its rotation plans immediately after the postponement was announced.

Beyond Mautz, fellow lefty Matthew Liberatore and righties Michael McGreevy and Dustin May were previously scheduled to pitch the three games of the Brewers series, which begins Monday at Milwaukee.

The Cardinals entered Sunday two games out of first place in the division against the Brewers at 29-22, and they will have a chance to claim their first NL Central lead of the season.
