LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Nick Castellanos and JaCoby Jones homered as the Tigers overcame Mike Foltynewicz's strong start and frustrated Josh Collmenter during Thursday afternoon's 5-3 win over the Braves at ESPN's Wide World of Sports complex.
Castellanos' first homer of the spring -- a two-run shot off Collmenter in the fifth inning -- proved to be the decisive blow for the Tigers, who received multi-hit performances from José Iglesias and Jones. James McCann and Dixon Machado recorded RBI singles during the sixth inning against Collmenter.

Foltynewicz allowed the Tigers to put two runners in scoring position before he recorded his first out and then found more trouble when Jones' leadoff homer served as one of three consecutive hits in the top of the second inning. But Foltynewicz ended up allowing just the one run as he recorded seven strikeouts (five of them looking) over four innings. He retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced, six via a strikeout.

Tigers starting pitcher Daniel Norris also encountered early trouble before settling down and limiting the Braves to two runs and six hits over 4 2/3 innings. Norris surrendered three consecutive one-out singles to Brandon Phillips, Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp during the first inning. He then surrendered three more hits, including Emilio Bonifácio's RBI single, in the second inning before retiring nine of the final 11 batters faced, including the last eight.
