Red Sox place All-Star Rafaela (right quad) on 10-day IL

The Red Sox placed outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, with a right quadriceps strain. To fill his spot, Boston recalled infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester.

Rafaela was out of the lineup in Saturday's 5-0 win over Baltimore for the third straight game after exiting Wednesday’s contest with soreness and tightness in his right quad.

Rafaela, 25, has hit .282 (151-for-535) with 32 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs, 70 RBI, 67 runs scored, and a .760 OPS in 135 games this season, while making 130 starts in center field. The right-handed hitter this year earned his first career All-Star selection. Signed by Boston as an international free agent in July 2017, the Curaçao native has batted .258 (441-for-1,708) with 95 doubles, 12 triples, 49 home runs, 213 RBI, and a.709 OPS in 471 career Major League games, all for the Red Sox (2023-26).

Eaton, 29, has played in 14 games this season for Boston, going 4-for-32 with two doubles and one home run while making six starts in left field, two in right field, and one in center field. The right-handed hitter has also played in 84 games for Worcester this year, hitting .253 (79-for-312) with 16 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 44 RBI, 58 runs scored, and a .748 OPS while making 49 starts in center field, 15 in right field, 12 in left field, and three as the designated hitter. Originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 21st round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Virginia native has hit .221 (60-for-272) in 127 career Major League Games for the Royals (2022-23) and Red Sox (2025-26).
