HOUSTON -- Christian Walker's steady glove at first base in 2026 has earned him his fourth career Rawlings Gold Glove, his first in the American League.
Walker is the third Astros player to win a Gold Glove at first base, joining Yuli Gurriel (2021) and Jeff Bagwell (1994). The other finalists at the position in the AL were Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays and Vinnie Pasquantino of the Royals.
Walker led AL first baseman in fielding percentage (.997), committing only three errors. He didn’t make his first error in 2026 until the ninth inning of an Aug. 21 game against the A’s, snapping a 121-game errorless streak that was the longest in the Majors last season.

According to FanGraphs, he ranked second among AL first baseman in outs above average (+3) and was third in defensive runs saved (three). Walker won three consecutive Gold Gloves as a member of the D-backs in 2022-24 -- his final three years in Arizona before signing a three-year, $60 million deal with Houston.
In appearing in 154 games at first base (starting 150) in 2026, Walker played 1,299 2/3 innings at the position, which accounted for 90 percent of the innings at first base for Houston last season. No Astros player had more innings on defense in ’26 than Walker.
Walker will be in the final year of his contract with the Astros in 2027, a season in which he will turn 36 years old in March. The Astros entertained trading him last offseason, but his salary made it difficult. It remains to be seen how Walker fits into the club’s plans next year.
The only other Astros player who was a finalist for a Gold Glove this year was right fielder Cam Smith, who’s been a finalist in both of his big league seasons. He looked more comfortable in right field this year, benefiting from improved range: His +6 OAA ranked in the 91st percentile in MLB and was the fourth most among primary right fielders.
