CJ Abrams Named National League Player of the Week

Following a week in which he led the National League in batting average, extra-base hits, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, hits, RBI and home runs, CJ Abrams was named National League Player of the Week on Monday. The announcement was made on MLB Network. This is Abrams’ first Player of the Week award this season and the fifth MLB award won by a Nationals player this year after James Wood (week of April 7 and July 13) and Luis García Jr. (week of June 29) were each named Player of the Week and Nasim Nuñez won Play of the Week (week of March 30).

Abrams, 25, went 15-for-26 (.577) with two doubles, six home runs, 12 RBI, a walk, two stolen bases and eight runs scored in six games from July 20-26. He hit safely in all six games and had multiple hits in five of the six.

Highlights of Abrams week include:

• Homered in three straight games for the second time this year from July 19-21.
• Matched a career-high with a four-hit game at Colorado on July 22.
• Had two multi-homer games on July 21 at Colorado and July 26 vs. Arizona.
• Hit his 26^th and 27^th home runs on July 26, breaking the record for most homers in a season by a Nationals shortstop (2005-pres.).
• This stretch began on July 19 at Sacramento reaching base three times with a double, homer and a walk.

Abrams leads all Major League Baseball shortstops in OPS, slugging percentage, home runs and RBI. He also ranks among National League hitters in slugging percentage (1^st, 573), RBI (1^st, 82), total bases (2^nd, 220), OPS (3^rd, 940), home runs (T4^th, 27), hits (T6^th, 114), runs scored (T9^th, 66) and batting average (9^th, .297).
