Carroll's walk-off homer helps D-backs keep pace in Wild Card race

PHOENIX -- On the verge of losing another game, both on the field and in the standings, the Diamondbacks got a two-run homer in the ninth inning from Corbin Carroll to walk-off the Marlins, 8-7, on Monday night at Chase Field.

It was a much-needed win with the Padres having won earlier in the evening in Denver. Instead of losing another game in the standings, the Diamondbacks remained 2 1/2 games back of San Diego in the battle for the final NL Wild Card spot, with 11 games to play.

Arizona trailed 7-6 heading into the ninth, with Marlins closer Pete Fairbanks on the mound.

Gabriel Moreno opened the ninth by drawing a walk and was pinch-run for by Tommy Troy, and Fairbanks would exit the game one pitch later due to injury.

Jack Ralston entered the game, and after a sacrifice bunt by Geraldo Perdomo, Carroll delivered the game-winning homer.
