KANSAS CITY -- Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll was a late scratch from Tuesday’s lineup against the Royals with low back discomfort.
Carroll had originally been penciled into the lineup as the right fielder batting fifth as Arizona took on Kansas City in the second game of the three-game series.
Tim Tawa, originally slotted at first base, started in right field for Carroll, with Ildemaro Vargas at first base.
Carroll was not in the starting lineup for Monday's 5-4 win and manager Torey Lovullo said he wanted to give Carroll a full day off. However, Carroll entered the game late as the Diamondbacks pulled out a victory in 10 innings.
Carroll is hitting .240 with 19 homers and 61 RBIs. He leads the Major Leagues in triples with 16 and his 65 extra-base hits rank fifth in the Majors.
