BOSTON -- Just five games into his return from the IL, Corey Seager was held out of the lineup for the Rangers' series opener against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday after feeling soreness in the wake of a home plate collision on Thursday.
Following a first-inning single in Kansas City, Seager was waved around on a Brandon Nimmo double to right field, but with the throw coming home, he awkwardly slid and collided with Royals catcher Carter Jensen.
He remained in the game and went 2-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season, but when he awoke in Boston on Friday, the Rangers All-Star was a little worse for wear.

“He’s a little banged up after the collision at home plate yesterday,” manager Skip Schumaker said. “Ribs, jaw, kind of felt like today was a good day to be off. He’s day-to-day.”
Seager was mired in an 0-for-29 slump when he suffered lower back inflammation in mid-May that sidelined him for 19 games. Since his return, he’s hit safely in four of five games with two home runs and four RBIs.
When asked about Seager’s return, his manager said, "We’ll kind of see how he feels tomorrow.”
