BOSTON -- Massachusetts native Craig Albernaz spent his childhood going to games at Fenway Park. He recalls sitting down the right-field line with an obstructed view for his first game at the storied park.
But on Tuesday night, the Orioles’ manager had a front-row seat to watch his team continue their recent strong stretch with a 4-2 series-opening win over the Red Sox. After finishing their homestand 7-3, the Orioles opened a six-game road trip through Boston and Toronto with a solid win against their AL East rivals.
Coby Mayo put Baltimore on the board with a solo blast off the Green Monster, which was originally ruled a double. Upon review, Mayo had a game-tying solo homer for his seventh of the season. The following inning, Pete Alonso extended Baltimore’s lead with a two-run blast over the Monster.
Starter Shane Baz delivered his fourth consecutive quality start, giving up two runs over seven innings and striking out six.
Tuesday’s win not only helped fuel the Orioles’ recent momentum, but represented a step in the right direction for a club that’s struggled on the road this season. Baltimore has been considerably better at home in 2026, with a .559 winning percentage at Camden Yards, compared to .346 on the road entering Tuesday.
“I think you could point at a lot of different series where we haven't been at our best, and so for us, it's playing better baseball, just like we've shown [last] homestand,” Albernaz said pregame. “So now it's up to myself and our coaching staff to hold our players to that standard, because they show that they can play a complete game for an extended stretch.”
