Sánchez in prime spot at home (10-1, 1.41 ERA) in a start vs. Miami (3-0, 0.50 ERA)

PHILADELPHIA -- It seems as if some of the hype around Cristopher Sánchez has subsided recently.

Maybe it’s because the National League Cy Young race hasn’t remained as tightly contested as it was earlier in the season. Maybe it’s because of that one bad outing Sánchez had in Kansas City prior to the All-Star break. Maybe it’s because teammate Jesús Luzardo has arguably been the Phillies’ best pitcher for the past two months.

Or maybe it’s just a matter of anything Sánchez does will pale in comparison to when he went the entire month of May without allowing a run.

Whatever the reason, it’s worth a reminder that Sánchez is still one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Entering Monday’s start against the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park, Sánchez ranks second among NL pitchers in innings (155 2/3), third in strikeouts (181) and fourth in ERA (2.54). The Phillies’ co-ace is the only pitcher to rank among the top five in all three categories.

And while Sánchez hasn’t necessarily pitched as deep into some recent games as he did earlier this season, he’s still 5-0 with a 2.29 ERA over his past six outings.

Oh, and as for Monday’s outing?

Not only is Sánchez 10-1 with a 1.41 ERA in 14 outings at home this season, but he’s also 3-0 with a 0.50 ERA in five career starts against the Marlins.
