Cubs activate Rondon from disabled list

MILWAUKEE -- The Cubs activated Héctor Rondón from the disabled list on Tuesday and called up outfielder Albert Almora Jr., infielder Munenori Kawasaki, catcher Tim Federowicz and right-handed reliever Spencer Patton from Triple-A Iowa.
Rondon, 28, who had been on the DL since Aug. 17 with a strained right triceps, pitched the seventh inning of Tuesday's 12-5 loss, giving up an RBI single to Orlando Arcia.
Right-hander R.J. Alvarez has been designated for assignment.
How will manager Joe Maddon use the additions?
"I'm going to try to rotate guys in and out," Maddon said. "When we give Kris Bryant and Addison Russell a day off like we did today, we still have a good team on the field."
Almora, 22, batted .303 in 80 games at Iowa with four home runs, 18 doubles, three triples and 43 RBIs. He appeared in 34 games with the Cubs from June 7 to July 20 and hit .265.
Kawasaki, 35, who was with the Cubs briefly earlier this season and appeared in three games, hit .255 in 102 games at Iowa, stealing 20 bases.
Federowicz, 29, who appeared in 13 games for the Cubs from late April to early June, batted .293 in 65 games at Iowa, hitting eight home runs and 12 doubles and driving in 39 runs.
Patton, 28, appeared in 35 games at Iowa and compiled a 1.00 ERA, giving up three earned runs over 36 innings while striking out 59. In 12 games with the Cubs, he has given up nine earned runs over 17 1/3 innings.
