Cubs add Rosario to bullpen, option Bote

ATLANTA -- The Cubs optioned infielder David Bote to Triple-A Iowa and recalled left-hander Randy Rosario before Thursday's series finale against the Braves at SunTrust Park.
Rosario, who turns 24 on Friday, signed with the Twins as an amateur free agent in 2010. In his brief stint with Minnesota last season, he struggled in 2 1/3 innings, posting a 30.86 ERA and 3.00 WHIP. So far in Triple-A this year, he has a 0.52 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in 11 appearances.
Bote hit .263 in 19 at-bats with five RBIs and a stolen base.
"We had to do something," manager Joe Maddon said before Thursday's game. "[Steve] Cishek and [Brian] Duensing are perilously close to being way overused over the last week. I had to sit them two for tonight, same thing with [Carl Edwards Jr.]. So we had to go with Rosario, who's been pitching really well, and I liked him a lot in Spring Training, and that put Bote out of the mix for right now. So it's just one of those things that you've got to do during the baseball season."
