Cubs officially unveil logo for '27 All-Star Game at Wrigley Field

CHICAGO -- When the All-Star Game arrives at Wrigley Field next summer, the national landmark on Chicago’s North Side will be the only active ballpark to have hosted the annual showcase four times.

That fact was on full display at the Friendly Confines on Friday night, when the Cubs unveiled the logo that will be used for the 2027 All-Star Game prior to their series opener against the Twins. Around the diamond were representatives of the Cubs who accounted for 24 combined All-Star appearances, including in each Midsummer Classic played at the corner of Clark and Addison.

Pete Crow-Armstrong, the budding face of the franchise and a two-time All-Star, stood at home plate to pull the cover off a large display of the 2027 logo. Anthony Rizzo -- a three-time All-Star and key member of the 2016 World Series champions -- made his way to the mound for a ceremonial first pitch, flanked by famous Cubs fans, actor Bill Murray and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.

Andre Dawson (eight-time All-Star) and Shawon Dunston (two-time All-Star) -- Cubs who were part of the last All-Star Game at Wrigley Field in 1990, along with the late Ryne Sandberg -- were at third base. Sweet Swingin’ Billy Williams (a six-time All-Star) was at second, representing the 1962 All-Star Game at the ballpark. And a niece of Cubs great Phil Cavarretta (a three-time All-Star who took part in the 1947 Classic at Wrigley) was at first base.

It was a glimpse into the long, storied history of the Cubs franchise and a ballpark that was built in 1914.

“For more than a century, Wrigley Field, one of the league’s two oldest, original ballparks, has connected generations of players and fans through a shared love of the game,” Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts said in a release.

“Every generation has made memories at Wrigley Field. In 2027, the game will add another chapter. We’re honored to welcome fans from around the world back to Chicago to celebrate the history, traditions and memories that make the Friendly Confines one of baseball’s most enduring homes.”

The All-Star logo offers an icon that ties the team’s history with the city of Chicago.

The words “All-Star Game” are in white lettering that matches the famous red marquee over the home-plate gate to Wrigley Field. They stretch across a red banner representing the marquee, with a six-point blue star included that reflects the city’s flag. A large Cubbie blue star serves as the backdrop for the image.

“Major League Baseball is excited for historic Wrigley Field to take center stage,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a release. “Chicago’s rich baseball heritage makes it a perfect stage for the game’s brightest stars.

“As the logo for the 2027 Midsummer Classic is unveiled, we look forward to collaboration with the Cubs, the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois to showcase the vibrant culture, iconic neighborhoods, passionate fans and enduring love of the game that define the Windy City.”
