Goldschmidt set to join Team USA

PEORIA, Ariz. -- D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt will leave the D-backs after Sunday's game to join Team USA for the World Baseball Classic, and after watching him blast a homer Friday, manager Torey Lovullo thinks Goldschmidt is ready.
"He looks to be in really good position," Lovullo said. "When you hit a ball like that the opposite way with the force that he did, you don't do that by accident. You do it by the hard work, commitment to the plan, staying with it, the execution of the plan."
Goldschmidt is scheduled to start Sunday afternoon's game against the White Sox and get two or three at-bats.
• Patrick Corbin was pleased with his start Saturday in which he allowed a pair of runs over three innings, in the D-backs' 6-5 loss to the Padres.
All three of the runs came in his third inning of work.
"I felt strong, so that was a positive," Corbin said. "I thought on a couple of fastballs I just got a little quick. I thought I was able to make the adjustment there. I felt really good with my offspeed, throwing it for strikes."

• Zack Greinke came through his first start of the spring Friday with no issues and Lovullo said he will start again on regular rest.
• Catcher Chris Herrmann has recently seen game action at first base and within the week will likely play some in the outfield.
Herrmann's versatility makes it almost certain the D-backs will carry three catchers on their Opening Day roster.
