Cubs closer Daniel Palencia has landed on the injured list for the second time this season.
The Cubs placed the right-hander on the 15-day IL on Tuesday with right elbow inflammation. Right-hander Gavin Hollowell was recalled from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move.
Palencia appeared in Monday’s 5-4 victory against the Rockies, throwing a scoreless ninth inning with three strikeouts and a walk. He ultimately earned the win when the Cubs rallied to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth.
Palencia has a 2.70 ERA with 19 strikeouts and six walks across 16 2/3 innings this season. He hasn't had a save opportunity since May 14, when he converted his third save of the year.
He first went to the injured list in April and missed nearly three weeks due to a left oblique strain.
